The Belgian health insurance system (RIZIV) reimburses only one ultrasound a day.
Exception: musculoskeletal disorders. In this case more than one region can be examined.

- Doppler ultrasound exam of the legs: Please specify if the problem is venous or arterial, given the distinctly different pathology. If necessary or when in doubt, both can be examined.
- Ultrasound of the upper abdomen: Patients are not allowed to eat, drink or smoke 8 hours prior to the examination.
- Ultrasound of the lower abdomen (transabdominal): Patients should have a moderately full bladder. First, patients must empty their bladder. Next, they should drink 1/2 litre water one hour prior to the examination.
